Bass N’ Dash Now Taking Entries

May 06, 2026

Proceeds Benefit William Newton Hospital Auxiliary, Huxley’s Halo of Hope

Registration is open for the third bass fishing tournament and kids’ fishing derby on Saturday, May 30, at Winfield City Lake, coordinated by the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary and City of Winfield. Reimagined as the Bass N’ Dash, a new 5k trail run/walk has taken the place of the BBQ competition.

“While a BBQ lunch will still be served for fishing tournament participants, we’re inviting community members to join in the fun with our new 5k trail run along the scenic waterfront,” says event creator and chairperson Brittney Shaffer, William Newton Hospital director of volunteers.

This year, proceeds will benefit the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary and a new partner, Huxley’s Halo of Hope. A local non-profit, Huxley’s Halo of Hope is an initiative dedicated to providing light, comfort, and tangible keepsakes—such as weighted bears and gift baskets—to families navigating the profound loss of a baby.

"The heart of this event has always been about neighbors helping neighbors. Splitting the proceeds with Huxley’s Halo of Hope allows us to celebrate the spirit of giving in a whole new way,” says Shaffer.

Fishing Tournament & Kids’ Derby

The bass fishing tournament remains a centerpiece of the day, with registration and live well checks beginning at 6:00 a.m. The first cast is set for 7:00 a.m., with a weigh-in at 1:00 p.m. The first-place boat will take home $500, with $300 for second place and a prize package for third. The entry fee is $150 per boat (two anglers), which includes two commemorative t-shirts, lake access permit, boat permits, breakfast, and lunch.

The kids’ fishing derby for ages 12 and under runs from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Entry is $15 and includes a shirt and lake access permit. Top winners will receive $25 cash plus prize packages.

New 5K Trail Run

The newest addition, the 5K trail run/walk, kicks off at 8:00 a.m. Participants should keep their eyes peeled for hidden treasures. Lucky runners could find one of three tokens to exchange for $30, $25, or $20 in cash. The top male and female finishers in both adult and kids categories will receive awards.

Entry is $25 for adults or $20 for kids 10 and under, which includes a t-shirt and lake access permit.

Participants in all events will also receive a swag bag from event sponsors.

Bass N’ Dash participants must register by Wednesday, May 13, to guarantee a commemorative t-shirt on event day. The final deadline for all events is noon on Thursday, May 28. No day-of registrations will be accepted.
