Phone Scam Alert - August 2026

William Newton Hospital and Health Professionals of Winfield have received reports of fraudulent phone calls impacting local community members and patients.

What is Happening?

Scammers are utilizing "phone spoofing" technology to deliberately falsify the information transmitted to your Caller ID display. These fraudulent calls appear as "William Newton Hospital" or "Health Professionals of Winfield." Callers may ask for financial details, personal health information, or immediate payment.

What You Should Do

  1. Request Verification: Ask the caller for their full name and direct extension.

  2. Do Not Disclose Personal Data: Never provide credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, or personal identifying information on an unsolicited inbound call.

  3. Hang Up and Call Us Directly: If you are unsure whether a call regarding a bill or appointment is legitimate, hang up immediately and contact our billing team directly at our verified numbers:

    • William Newton Hospital Billing Office: 620-222-6248

    • Health Professionals of Winfield (Clinic Billing Office): 620-222-6261

Note: William Newton Hospital and Health Professionals of Winfield have separate billing offices. Our representatives will always verify your account identity securely and will never pressure you into immediate payment on an unverified line.

If you suspect you have fallen victim to a scam, please report the incident to local law enforcement or the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) consumer complaint portal.

Fraud is a serious crime that puts vulnerable patients at risk. You can help!

Be on the lookout for:

  • Unsolicited calls or emails offering "free" benefits or equipment
  • Pressured to sign up for something
  • Bills for services you never received
  • Changes to your health plan you didn't initiate

️ Protect yourself and your loved ones:

  • Never give out your health information to anyone you don't know and trust
  • Review your medical statements carefully. Report any errors or suspicious activity immediately
  • Talk to your doctor or a trusted advisor about any questions or concerns you have
  • Share this information with your friends and family

Report suspected fraud:

  • Call the Medicare Fraud Hotline at 1-800-HHS-TIPS (447-8477)
  • Visit the Medicare website for more information and resources
