William Newton Hospital Employees Exceed Fundraising Goal

Sep 08, 2025

Staff Raise $150,000 for Emergency Department Expansion

Employees of William Newton Hospital in Winfield have successfully reached and surpassed their $150,000 fundraising goal for the hospital's ongoing Second Century Campaign. This significant milestone directly supports the expansion of the hospital's emergency department.

"I am very proud of the dedication the WNH employees show to our hospital,” said Kelle Thompson, William Newton Healthcare Foundation employee campaign committee chair. “Their display of generosity shows they support the mission of the hospital and want to be a part of its growth and meeting the needs of the community we serve.”

The Phase I Second Century Campaign project culminated in 2020 with the opening of the H. L. Snyder Medical Foundation Surgery Center. It was made possible through a combination of philanthropic support from William Newton Healthcare Foundation donors and long-term financing by William Newton Hospital.

Entirely funded by philanthropy, Phase II is a long-term plan to modernize and expand emergency care at William Newton Hospital to meet the growing demand in Cowley County and the surrounding region. In 2024, the hospital's emergency room and Fast Track experienced a record-breaking year with 10,790 patient visits. This represents a significant increase over the five-year average of 9,351 emergency room visits from 2019-2023. Projections for 2025 are even higher.

The state-of-the-art emergency department will enable the hospital to better serve the community's healthcare needs for years to come, with a larger, more efficient space. Enhanced patient privacy, patient monitoring, parking, and security will also be incorporated.

In recognition of the employees’ fundraising achievement for Phase II, they have earned a naming opportunity for the new breakroom in the expanded emergency department, a space designed to support the well-being of the hospital’s caregivers.

"While we are celebrating this milestone, we are still working toward our overall campaign goal of $8 million,” says William Newton Healthcare Foundation Executive Director Annika Morris. “Every donation, no matter the size, helps us build a stronger, more advanced emergency department for everyone."
