Sunflower OB/GYN Receives $63k Grant to Bring State-of-the-Art Ultrasound Technology to the Community
Jan 19, 2026
Sunflower OB/GYN at William Newton Hospital is proud to announce it has been awarded a $63,000 grant from the Patterson Family Foundation to fully fund the acquisition of a GE Voluson Signature 18 ultrasound machine.
This upgrade ensures that the Sunflower team, including OB/GYN K. Daniel Miller, DO, and women’s health provider Katie Onwugbufor, APRN, will continue to provide premier prenatal and gynecological care for years to come.
The GE Voluson Signature 18 is one of the most advanced imaging systems on the market. Replacing a seven-year-old unit, the new machine offers a massive leap in diagnostic capabilities. Key upgrades include enhanced measurement accuracy, superior color imaging for monitoring blood flow, and significantly higher resolution. Additionally, the Voluson Signature 18 is specifically designed to provide clearer imaging for patients with a higher BMI, ensuring equitable, high-quality care for all members of the community.
“I am very grateful for the Patterson Family Foundation’s support in fully funding this project,” said Mathilde Squires, Clinic Manager at Sunflower OB/GYN. “Their commitment to rural and community health facilities allows us to provide ‘big city’ medicine and access to specialty care to smaller communities like ours.”
To ensure the technology is utilized to its fullest potential, sonographer Michelle Ledford will attend an intensive education course at the GE application training center in Wisconsin this June. This training will bring specialized expertise back to the clinic, allowing patients to benefit from the highest standards of sonography available in modern medicine.
Sunflower OB/GYN continues to accept new patients and remains a cornerstone for maternal health in the community, proving that high-tech, compassionate care is available right here at home.
