A Milestone for Local Healthcare: WNH Formalizes Design Partnership, Nears Emergency Department Goal

Apr 02, 2026

Representatives from William Newton Hospital, William Newton Healthcare Foundation, and Alloy Architecture gathered recently at the hospital entrance to mark a significant milestone in the Second Century Campaign. The hospital has officially entered into an agreement with the firm for the design of the new emergency department, signaling a major step forward for an initiative funded entirely by the philanthropic support secured through the Foundation’s capital campaign.

As of late January, the community has successfully raised $7.3 million toward the $8 million total goal required for the emergency department expansion and renovation. This project is essential to modernize a facility that was last significantly renovated in 1981. The planned enhancements aim to address critical needs such as safety, privacy, efficiency, and accessibility to better serve the growing number of patients in the region.

"We've got our hard hats ready!" said Ben Walter, Managing Principal at Alloy Architecture, noting the team's readiness to move forward with the vital improvements.

William Newton Healthcare Foundation, established in 2007, continues to champion the philanthropic support needed to advance the hospital's mission and enhance the quality of life for local residents.

"The fundraising for the emergency department started in 2019, so we are excited for donors to see this progress," said William Newton Healthcare Foundation Executive Director Annika Morris. "We are so close to our goal.”
