William Newton Hospital Marketing Efforts Honored in Statewide Competition

Jul 06, 2023

Kansas hospitals and health systems, including William Newton Hospital, were recently recognized for excellence in public relations and marketing efforts by the Kansas Association of Health Care Communicators through its annual Emerald Awards competition.

The 2023 Emerald Awards, including 19 Emerald Awards and 17 Certificates of Merit were presented at the Kansas Association of Health Care Communicators spring conference on June 2 in Manhattan, Kan. Three marketing professionals from Tennessee, Nebraska, and Missouri with extensive experience in health care marketing evaluated entries for planning and research, implementation, cost-effectiveness, and results.

William Newton Hospital’s Sarah Johnson, Director of Marketing, Strategy & Communications, and Kylie Stamper, Marketing Coordinator, represented the hospital at the awards banquet.

“It is not surprising that Sarah and Kylie have been recognized by their peers for the outstanding work they’ve done. They work extremely hard to design and produce top-notch materials to promote William Newton Hospital’s mission and the patient services we provide in our community,” says Brian Barta, William Newton Hospital Chief Executive Officer.

Barta noted that the William Newton Hospital team was recognized among hospitals and health systems both large and small. The Best in Show was awarded to the University of Kansas Health System, which has more than 100 locations and over 13,900 employees.

“Their ingenuity and collaboration with the William Newton Healthcare Foundation and other community partners allow for the information to have a wide reach and impact, even though the resources available are a fraction of many other health care entities in Kansas.”

William Newton Hospital submitted five entries and earned five Emerald Awards:

  • External Communications - Total Campaign: “Welcome Dr. Rebekah Ross,” William Newton Hospital Marketing
  • Special Events: “Gala 2022: The Grand Affair,” William Newton Hospital Marketing & William Newton Healthcare Foundation
  • Website: “WNHcares.org Redesign 2022,” William Newton Hospital Marketing
  • Small Budget, Big Results: “COVID-19 Self-Test Kit Drive,” William Newton Hospital & Community Health Center in Cowley County
  • Wildcard: “Public Service Announcement: Dear Cowley County Citizens,” Sarah Johnson, William Newton Hospital & Cowley County health care entities

Johnson reflected on these recognitions:

“Most of these projects leverage teamwork and community partnerships in some way. In today’s landscape of rural healthcare, we all benefit from collaboration. We’re stronger together, and I thank each of the entities named in these projects for their contributions and willingness to join forces to ensure access to quality health care.”
