37th Annual Junebug Jog Celebrates America250
May 22, 2026
Lace up your shoes for a unique milestone edition of a favorite Winfield tradition. The 37th annual Junebug Jog, hosted by William Newton Hospital and the Winfield Recreation Commission, is scheduled for Saturday, June 13, 2026. This year, the community fitness event is proudly joining the national America250 movement, offering exclusive semi-quincentennial features alongside its traditional road races.
Designed for all ages and fitness levels, the timed road courses will start and end near the main entrance of Winfield High School, guiding participants through a scenic local route.
"The Junebug Jog has been a beloved Winfield tradition for nearly four decades, but the 2026 race is truly a once-in-a-lifetime edition," said William Newton Hospital’s Director of Marketing and Communications and race coordinator Sarah Johnson. "Aligning our 37th year with the national America250 celebration allowed us to completely reimagine the event. From the competitive energy of the brand-new fitness challenge to the historic design, we wanted to give our community a way to celebrate national pride and local fitness together."
Because this year's race falls on the 13th, the event's theme centers heavily on the nation’s original flag. All 10k, 5k, and 1-Mile participants will receive a limited-edition commemorative t-shirt and finisher medal featuring the historic "Circle of 13 Stars" design, alongside patriotic race swag and professional timing.
To honor the spirit of independence, organizers are introducing 2026-only additions to the event lineup:
- Racing for Our Veterans: The race course runs directly past the home that serves local veterans. For every single participant who registers, race organizers will donate $1 to the Kansas Veterans Home Benefit Fund to provide resident activities, outings, and supplies that enhance their daily quality of life.
- America250 Fitness Challenge: Following the standard running events, a brand-new fitness challenge will take place on the Joe Vann Track. Participants will compete for a share of $250 in prize money by completing a total of 250 reps of various exercises (such as squats, jumping jacks, and sit-ups) around the track. The fastest overall male and female will each win $100 cash, while the fastest participant aged 10 and under will earn $50. The challenge is entirely free for Junebug Jog participants and just $10 for non-racers.
- Most Patriotic Costume Contest: Runners and walkers are encouraged to deck themselves out in their finest red, white, and blue garb. The individual judged "Most Patriotic" will take home a special prize pack and a complimentary registration for the 2027 Junebug Jog.
The morning schedule will kick off with packet pick-up at 6:45 a.m. at the Winfield High School south entrance. The 10k Run/Walk begins at 7:50 a.m., followed by the 5k at 8:00 a.m., and the 1-Mile Run/Walk at 8:10 a.m.
At 9:00 a.m., the energy shifts to the Joe Vann Track for the Jr. Junebug 100-Meter Dash. Open to children ages eight and under, this untimed fun run awards every junior participant a custom medal, patriotic swag, and a sweet surprise at the finish line.
An official awards ceremony and door prize drawings will wrap up the running events at 9:20 a.m. ahead of the 9:45 a.m. Fitness Challenge. As a continuing premium perk, all timed participants will receive free professional finish line photos printed and mailed directly to their doorsteps after the race. Post-race snacks and refreshments will also be provided.
Registration fees are $30 for the 10k, $25 for the 5k, and $20 for the 1-mile event, with fees increasing by $5 for those registering on race day. The Jr. Junebug Dash is $5 without a shirt or $12 with a shirt. Pricing increases on race day.
To guarantee a historic-themed race shirt on event morning, participants must register by Wednesday, May 27. Online registration is open at https://runsignup.com/Race/KS/Winfield/Junebug (processing fees apply). In-person registrations are also accepted during regular business hours at the Winfield Recreation Commission.
