Denim Makes a Difference at WNH

Feb 18, 2019

****William Newton Hospital’s dress code policy doesn’t allow jeans. Yet once a month, employees have the opportunity to give back by donning denim.

Through ‘Donors in Denim,’ hospital employees are encouraged to wear jeans for the day in exchange for a minimum contribution of five dollars to a selected community organization. ‘Jean Fridays’ occur the third Friday of each month.

In 2018, employees at William Newton Hospital donated a total of $3,190 to non-profits through Donors in Denim.

William Newton Hospital Director of Marketing and Business Development Sarah Bryant highlighted one of the benefactors, the WNH Employee Disaster Relief Fund.

“This fund is near and dear to the hearts of our employees,” Bryant remarked. “If a hospital employee is in need and has exhausted all other resources, this fund can help. We take pride in lifting each other up.”

The Donors in Denim program raised $265 for the WNH Employee Disaster Relief fund in 2018.

Each year, the Donors in Denim committee conducts an online survey of hospital employees to select the philanthropies.

In addition to the WNH Employee Disaster Relief Fund, organizations benefiting from employee donations in 2018 were: William Newton Healthcare Foundation, Big Brothers/Big Sisters Cowley County, Cowley County Dragons, Medical Loan Closet, Relay for Life/American Cancer Society, H.L. Snyder Medical Foundation, Winfield Area Food Pantry, Susan G Komen Foundation, Eagle Nest, Inc., and Isle of Lights.

The first Donors in Denim day of 2019 was held on January 18, with proceeds benefitting the William Newton Healthcare Foundation.
