Coming Home for Healthcare

Apr 03, 2021

By Lynda Lange, PT

I moved to this area more than 30 years ago. I have always been impressed by this community and the support that it gives to local businesses, but none as great as the support given to the local hospital. I am proud to be a longtime employee of William Newton Hospital and would like to share a few options for continuing care after a major surgery or hospital stay.

Winfield is fortunate to offer many special services for a town this size. We have an eclectic group of local physicians and specialists here, and others that consult locally to meet the needs of our community and the surrounding areas. It is also a great benefit to be able to seek medical care at the larger hospitals when needed. Sometimes the recovery time after a major surgery, stroke, or trauma takes more time than expected. Rest assured that even if you have medical attention in another hospital, you can always come home to finish your rehabilitation at William Newton Hospital.

Many patients qualify for skilled nursing care, available with the hospital’s swing bed unit. If you go directly home from the hospital, there’s William Newton Home Health or outpatient care. These services are dependent on the patients’ needs. We provide physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy at every level of care depending on the needs of the individual patient. William Newton Hospital Rehabilitation Services currently has 12 therapists and assistants that do direct patient care here at the hospital and in the patients’ home.

We are dedicated to help individuals regain the ability and strength needed to return home and function safely in their environment. We work closely with other hospitals and encourage our patients to return home to Cowley County for rehabilitation. Patients have the right to choose where they receive care, and we hope you choose your local physicians, hospital, and rehab.
