Cowley County Welcomes Three New Providers

Aug 22, 2025

William Newton Healthcare Foundation, Community Health Center in Cowley County to host joint event

Three new providers have recently joined medical practices in the Cowley County area. New medical couple, Katelyn Darnell, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, and Justin Onwugbufor, PA, have chosen Winfield as their home and community to serve. Darnell is practicing women’s health at Sunflower OB/GYN at William Newton Hospital, and Onwugbufor is providing primary care at Community Health Center in Cowley County’s Winfield location.

Also new to the Community Health Center in Cowley County is Lauryn Rayfield, DNP, APRN, FNP-C. Rayfield is currently practicing primary care at the Winfield location, but will be transitioning to the new Arkansas City location slated to open this fall.

These additions significantly enhance access to quality healthcare for residents, particularly in women's health and primary care.

Katelyn Darnell Joins Sunflower OB/GYN at William Newton Hospital

Sunflower OB/GYN at William Newton Hospital is pleased to welcome Katelyn (Katie) Darnell, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC, to its dedicated team of women's health providers at the Physicians Pavilion in Winfield. Originally from Wichita, Darnell brings a Doctor of Nursing Practice and Family Nurse Practitioner certification from Fort Hays State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the same institution. Her extensive experience includes caring for pediatric patients at Children's Nebraska and specializing in labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care at Ascension Via Christi St. Joseph Hospital.

At Sunflower OB/GYN, Darnell will provide comprehensive women's health services for adolescents and up, including well-woman exams, birth control counseling, and care for gynecological conditions. Her compassionate approach and expertise make her an excellent choice for patients seeking personalized care, especially those who prefer a female provider.

"I am passionate about preventative health care as well as educating and empowering patients to be engaged in their own health," says Darnell. "I’m excited to meet patients, establish relationships, and build a rapport. I’m looking forward to being part of the town of Winfield."

Justin Onwugbufor Joins Community Health Center in Cowley County

Concurrently, Community Health Center in Cowley County is thrilled to announce that Justin Onwugbufor, PA, has joined their team in Winfield. Justin completed his Master of Physician Assistant Education at Creighton University School of Medicine and holds Bachelor's degrees in Biology and Psychology from Missouri University of Science & Technology. His background includes valuable experience as a clinic officer at Creighton Magis Clinic, where he facilitated patient care for underserved populations, as well as roles in behavioral health and as a Certified Nurses Aide.

Onwugbufor's commitment to building trusting relationships and delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care aligns with the Community Health Center's mission.

"I want to give each patient my best while continuing to grow as both a provider and a person,” says Onwugbufor. “I aim to help patients take ownership of their health by educating and encouraging them, working alongside them to achieve their goals, and using the resources available in our clinic and community to break down barriers to the care they deserve."

Lauryn Rayfield Joins Community Health Center in Cowley County

With nearly 20 years of experience in healthcare across diverse settings and roles, Lauryn Rayfield, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, brings a depth of knowledge that enables her to connect with patients and support them as their primary provider. Rayfield recently graduated from Fort Hays State University with a Doctor of Nursing Practice and is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

As a family nurse practitioner, she will provide care to patients of all ages and help manage acute and chronic conditions.

“I aim to provide compassionate, patient-centered care tailored to the unique needs of the community,” says Rayfield. “I’m proud to be part of a dedicated team working to ensure that individuals and families have access to essential resources and services that might otherwise be out of reach.”
